V2L kit
The parts a competent person specifies to realise a safe V2L backup — grouped by the job they do. This is what to look for and why it matters; the specific product is a design decision against your actual supply, earthing and load.

Changeover & contactors
Interlocked contactors and manual/automatic changeover switches — the heart of a safe, break-before-make grid↔V2L transfer.
- The break-before-make changeover
Interlocked 2-pole contactor pair (KM1/KM2)
A mechanically interlocked pair guarantees the grid and V2L contactors can never close together. Size for the household load profile and confirm coil inrush is within the relay's rating.

Manual changeover switch (with OFF/centre position)
A switch declared suitable for isolation (BS EN IEC 60947-3) gives the lockable, secure isolation a competent person relies on — and a manual fallback when the EV is absent.

RCDs, RCBOs & SPDs
Residual-current and overcurrent protection sized for a V2L source — including Type A/F/B and smooth-DC detection.
- Residual-current + overcurrent protection
Type A RCBO (30 mA)
At least Type A is the baseline at an EV connection point; pair with smooth-DC detection (an RDC-DD or a Type B device) per BS 7671 §722.531.

Earthing & electrodes
Earth rods, clamps and test kit for a TT-island electrode — to be designed and proven by test.
- TT-island earth
Earth electrode (rod) kit + clamp
Forms the local earth for an outbuilding TT island. The electrode resistance (Ra) must be low and stable — designed to BS 7430 and proven by measurement.

Earth-loop impedance / RCD tester
The 'proven by test' step: confirm RCD operation in both grid and V2L modes and check the fault loop. Test instruments are for competent persons.

Isolation transformers
Double-wound isolating transformers for the indoor floating-output method.
- Indoor floating-output fix
Double-wound isolating transformer (~3.6 kVA)
A BS EN IEC 61558-2-4 isolating transformer (full LV, not the -2-6 SELV part) galvanically separates the floating V2L output so the secondary can carry one controlled neutral-earth bond.

Control & scheduling
The timed smart relay that commands the changeover — it only signals; the contactors carry the load.
- The scheduler
Timed smart relay (maintained mode)
Commands the interlocked contactors on a schedule via a dry SPDT contact (with a 3 A control fuse). It signals only — the fail-safe default must be grid.

V2L adapters & connectors
Type 2 V2L discharge adapters for compatible EVs — check compatibility with your vehicle.
- Taking power from the car
Type 2 V2L discharge adapter
Plugs into a compatible EV's Type 2 port and presents an AC outlet. Treat the coupler as a live, latched interface — check vehicle compatibility and the rated output.
