V2L Workshop

About V2L Workshop

V2L Workshop is the UK's plain-English, fully-sourced guide to using an electric vehicle's V2L (vehicle-to-load) output as home backup and scheduled load-shifting. Written by a qualified UK electrician and referenced to BS 7671, it is education for homeowners and electricians — never DIY instructions for notifiable work.

Who writes this

The technical authority is written by MartinQualified UK electrician; BEng Mechanical Engineering; qualified vehicle mechanic. That combination — wiring regulations, mechanical engineering and vehicle systems — is the reason this site can join up the consumer-unit side, the changeover hardware and the vehicle’s V2L output into one coherent, sourced picture.

What we’re for

Phase 1 covers using an EV’s V2L output as home backup and scheduled load-shifting. Phase 2 broadens to home energy efficiency and cost — solar, batteries, tariffs and transfer switching. Throughout, the goal is the same: credible, true, easy-to-understand, transparently-sourced information, under a non-negotiable safety frame.

What we are not

We do not publish step-by-step DIY instructions for notifiable electrical work, and we do not reproduce BS 7671 text. This is education and decision-support, not a substitute for design by a competent person.
